Several organisations base themselves at The Park
because of our wide range of facilities and our convenient location.
Footprints Children's Centre
Footprints Children’s Centre has evolved from the Knowle West Sure
Start Programme and the Knowle West Neighbourhood Nursery. It was
designated as a Children’s Centre, as part of Bristol City Council’s
first Phase of Children’s Centres in the city.
The Centre provides an integrated range of services for children and
their families, including creche facilities, full day care,
individual support through a community family worker scheme, and a
wide range of family support activities for the local community. It
is situated at The Park in Knowle West.
The Nursery is open from 8am until 6pm on weekdays, 50 weeks of the
year. A maximum of 60 children can attend at any one time. Children
can access Daycare places by referral, by paying fees and children
aged 3 or over can access nursery education funding. Shorter creche
sessions are available to those taking part in other activities at
the Park.
Nursery is made up of two distinct areas – one for under 2’s, and
one for over 2’s. This allows for age-appropriate, indoor and
outdoor free-flow play across the whole curriculum supported by a
lead teacher. There are 4 fully enclosed outdoor play areas, 3 of
which have direct access to the Nursery, whilst the other is being
developed as a wildlife garden and is currently used for Forest
School activities.
A separate building, known as the PAL house, provides free family
support and group activities such as drop-in groups, a child minders
group, and health visitor run baby clinic and has it’s own outdoor
play area.
There are many other groups also run in other venues such as Gymtots,
and parent led tot shop/toy library and Breast feeding support
groups. We also currently have six different ‘KEEP’ groups, (Knowle
Early Education Partnership) which is a fun early education
programme where parents and children learn together to ensure
children have a flying start to school.
The Centre also has additional specialist support from a Speech and
Language Therapist, an Advice and Guidance officer and child minder
supporter as well as the individual home visits from Community
family workers.

Urban II
Urban II is unique in that it is "owned" by young people, who
control everything that Urban does. All the forms we use, every bit
of publicity, all the decisions. Everything.
We see young people as the solution to the area's problems, rather
than the victims of their environment. We're tackling the issues of
long-term unemployment, low-levels of skills, poor education and
social exclusion.
Urban II is tackling these problems in three ways:
1. Helping young people get new skills and
improve their chances of employment.
2. Improving the environment of young people and the facilities they
enjoy.
3. Making sure young people get actively involved in their
community.
Urban II offers young people the chance to see
themselves as the solution, not the problem.
